Latin American Seminar on Human Rights

As a repercussion of the activities of the Latin American Consortium for Graduate Studies in Human Rights, in 2013, the IV Latin American Seminar on Human Rights was held from August 28 to 30, at the University of Fortaleza (UNIFOR). Under the theme "The National and International Effectiveness of Human Rights", the Seminar was attended by representatives of all the member universities of the Consortium and invited by other institutions, as well as the presentation of 47 papers to the five research groups of the Consortium.

The IV Seminar had panels on relativism and universalism; reform of the inter-American human rights system; effectiveness of social human rights; indigenous peoples, traditional populations and the environment; gender discrimination and sexual exploitation; democracy and transitional justice.

The lectures given were gathered in the book "The National and International Efficacy of Human Rights" and the papers presented to the groups were published in "Annals of the Latin American Seminar on Human Rights", vol. 1, nº 1, 2013. Both publications are available on the Consórcio website.

In 2014, the V Latin American Seminar on Human Rights was held from October 26 to 28, at the National University of Asuncion (UNA). Under the theme "Progress and Retreats of Human Rights in Latin America: Truth, Justice and Reparation," the Fifth Seminar featured panels on gender and justice; memory, truth, and reparatory policies; peoples and human rights. The papers presented at the Fifth Latin American Seminar on Human Rights will be published in the first semester of 2015.

In addition, the Consortium publishes semiannually, with articles in Portuguese and Spanish, the electronic magazine Hendu - Latin American Journal of Human Rights, which published Vol. 5, nº 1 and 2, in 2014 (www.periodicos.ufpa.br/index.php/hendu).
